Ana Marina’s resume is a long and diverse one. Most notably, she has enchanted audiences around the world as ‘Christine Daae’ in The Phantom of the Opera, ‘Cosette’ in Les Miserables, and ‘Emma Carew’ in Jekyll and Hyde. Not only has she appeared in numerous ensemble stage shows, she has also held her own solo concerts and appeared on television-including at the State of Origin, singing the National Anthem. After an illustrious career on the stage though, Ana is now realising a lifelong dream with the release of her debut album, Haunted.
Support and Encouragement
Growing up without a TV, Ana listened to a variety of music, including lots of opera and musicals. Yet, it was when she saw the movie musical Annie that she developed the desire to perform herself. She was just eight years old then and her parents immediately started taking her to singing and piano lessons. By time she was eleven she was already performing in amateur musicals. Born in New Zealand, Ana’s parents moved the family to Australia when she was thirteen. This was done in order to provide her with more opportunity as a singer. She credits much of her success to her parents’ support and unwavering encouragement.
Ana commenced serious training for her craft at The Queensland Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Diploma of Music. She then came to TPAC, called The National Actor’s Conservatory, during a career break. At this point, she had already been to London, and appeared in Les Miserables in Australia. Nevertheless, she found that studying at TPAC helped her re-evaluate what she had to offer as a performer. She was able to reassess her skills and recognise her individual qualities as a more serious actor. The staff and fellow students of TPAC also helped her to realise her value as a performer. Ana graduated with an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Stage Acting. And in 2007, she was awarded TPAC’s Outstanding Industry Achievement Award.
A Well-Rounded Career
Then came time for another career break. Ana wanted to start a family and reassess her career goals once again. Having done that, she is now ready to get back into the music scene. She is also ready to transition from singing other people’s songs, to writing and singing her own. Landing the iconic role of ‘Christine’ in The Phantom of the Opera was definitely a career highlight for Ana. However, her debut album Haunted is also a major career highlight. And it is also proof that whatever dreams young girls (and boys) have, they can come true.
